Formula K and Protrain set the pace at the Euromax in Genk.
The Formula K once again showed its pedigree last weekend in a world class field in Genk with some truly impressive times and results.
In the Protrain team Charlie Eastwood set a consistently high standard and quickly showed superb skill and pace. He achieved very impressive timed practice results which he then exceeded in the heats securing three firsts and a second place. This positioned him second on the grid for the prefinal which he finished fourth. Disappointingly in the final he was knocked off on lap three in a black flag incident which although Charlie recovered from meant that race success never a realistic option.

Jack Aitken moved to Formula K during the event after being 6ths off the pace in Wednesday testing on his Tony Kart. Over night the team transferred his equipment onto a formula K and immediately he was matching the superb pace being set by Charlie Eastwood. He continued to impress in timed practice and heats where he achieved several fastest lap times. It appeared for a while that events were conspiring against him when he weighed in 100gms under, was disqualified and given a 10s penalty effectively ruining two heats, but in a demonstration of professionalism and karting excellence Jack went into the B final in eighth place determined to show his class. Having won the B final, setting a brilliant fastest lap time he the traded fastest laps with Ed Brand in the pre final eventually losing out to Ed Brand for the fastest lap by 0.002s. He went into the final in 29th place against a world class field. Undeterred Jack put in an incredible performance in the final trading fastest laps with other drivers and finished an impressive seventh place
Max Aitken also had a difficult early start to the weekend competing in the first and much slower timed practice session but finished his heats strongly also securing a fastest lap and a heat win in the process. A crash at the start of the pre final saw Max almost last but driving with great passion he drove through the field to finish 12th. The final was equally nail biting and Max showed great determination to finish an impressive fifth, another great result in his FK.
Sabedin Berat Turker seemed to have bad luck following him over the weekend with results less than he and the team deserved including a crash in his final but his times were very positive including a second fastest lap time.
Gary Chapman said, “It might seem odd that we are still happy although we are coming away without a win but the performance of our drivers and the Formula K was truly superb. We had a bit of bad luck but Jack Aitken and Charlie Eastwood were dominant all weekend and knowing we have such great drivers in this fabulous kart means that we move on feeling very positive. Ed Brand has set a new lap record at Whilton Mill in his Formula K and I have just heard that another driver on a Formula K has set the new Mini Max lap record this weekend at PFI. The FK really is the kart to be on; it is a true driver’s kart. "
Formula K had a great deal to be happy about, in Seniors they had four of the top nine in the prefinal, three in the top eight in the final with fast laps going to FK drivers. In Juniors the final saw two Formula K drivers secure top five places. In DD2 FK dominated timed practice, the heats and the pre final but crashed out in the final. Their dominance is growing at every meeting.
