Turney takes back to back victories at Shenington
Following on from the abandoned January round the Winter Series at Shenington finally got underway in February with very respectable grids across all categories. Following a good day of testing on Saturday foggy conditions on Sunday delayed the start and made the early heats challenging for all drivers.
Protrain cadet driver 96 Joe Turney left Shenington last December with a superb victory having dominated racing on his comer engine and returned for the first time on the new Iame Parilla hoping to add to his race wins total, he did not disappoint.
Having finished fourth and second in his heats he lined up on row two and despite dropping a couple of places into the first corner he drove with the usual determination we have come to expect to seal back to back Shenington victories.
The win was an even more impressive achievement as Turney struggled in January on an engine that has a currently undiagnosed fault so had a brand new engine on his kart demonstrating the potential of the Iame engines 'out of the box'.
As leading Shenington 2012 competitor across the line on an Iame in 2013 Turney was awarded a £200 Iame voucher which has already been put to good use. After the race he thanked his team, Ogden Motorsport and in particular James Mills of John Mills Engineering for their support.
Meanwhile Honda Cadet Novice driver Tom Bennett was chasing the novice trophy and with two very strong heats he put his Kart seventh on the grid eventually taking his third Honda Novice trophy in a nail billing final.
Shenington Comer Cadet 2012 Champion Kieran Wragg showed that the transition from Cadet to MiniMax can be immediately successful by taking a highly respectable fifth place.
Joe Turney has shown great pace and race craft in the short time he has been karting and will be competing at Super1 in 2013, do you have a cadet driver who could partner him? We'd love to hear from you and have a great offer for the right driver. Please call Martyn Smithers or Gary Chapman in total confidence on 01280 814774.
The Formula K UK team move on to Genk for round one of the EuroMax challenge and the Super 1 and club team move on to PFI.
