Turney Wins Shenington Winter Championship
Turney Triumphant at Shenington
Replacing the abandoned January round the final round of the Winter 100 Series at Shenington finally took place over the Easter weekend in icy conditions with the cold temperatures playing havoc with kart settings and creating challenging conditions for all drivers.
Following on from Victory in February Protrain cadet driver 96 Joe Turney left Shenington in mid March disappointed after a throttle cable failure in the final cost him a likely podium place and denied him valuable championship points. However this young driver is known for being determined and returned to get his hands on the winners’ trophy.
Having struggled in his first heat he came from the back to fourth in his second heat positioning him sixth on the grid for the final.
The outside position on the grid cost him valuable places into turn one but Turney drove a mature race recognising the need to keep in touch with the leaders to have any chance of victory. He positioned himself well and using slipstreaming to his advantage went into the final turn in third place where a collision between the front two let Turney through to take the chequered flag, his second victory at Shenington this year and sealing his place as the Winter 100 iame Champion.
Having come fourth in 2012, when he had not long come off his novice, plates Turney was thrilled to win the Championship and expressed his thanks to his team, BRT, Ogden and Martyn, Danny and Scott who all worked with him over the series.
Joe Turney has shown great pace and race craft in the short time he has been karting and will be competing at Super1 in 2013, do you have a cadet driver who could partner him? We'd love to hear from you and have a great offer for the right driver. Please call Martyn Smithers or Gary Chapman in total confidence on 01280 814774.
